Lucid is a 2D platformer game that explores the inner mind of Gerald - a war veteran who is coping with the loss of his best friend and comrade Kirby. Through fighting his inner demons and solving puzzles, Gerald slowly remembers his past reconciles with his mistakes. 
The environment is designed with Gerald's broken psychology in mind, emphasizing the constant hostility he feels being trapped in his own skin. ​​​​​​​
Several concepts were presented to the team to discuss where the environment for the game will take place. We decided on the battlefield Ruins.
After the concepts, we ran it though some colour and effect tests, making sure that the character and environment contrasts well, and ensuring the mood of the game remains consistent to the designer's vision.
This is the final environment concept with the layer separation in Unity Engine in mind. The Background was afterwards divided into layers and sprites to support parallax movement.
